ERAWAN is the Thai name of Airavata (Airavata is a mythological white elephant who carries the Hindu god Indra). It is depicted as a huge elephant with either three (or sometimes thirty-three) heads which are often shown with more than two tusks.

Erawan National Park is located in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. It’s more popular by the legendary Erawan Falls with its magnificent seven-tiered falls (and every level has its own name). My friends and I are lucky enough to have a chance to visit this wonderful natural attraction. Let the pictures say it all!

^^

Welcome to Erawan! Get your feet ready for a long walk. The three-headed white elephant is ‘awaiting’ on top of the falls.

Information board is nearly everywhere in the entrance.

Look, it’s a ‘jamblang’ tree! This endemic tropical fruit (Syzygium cumini) has a taste of sweet-sour taste.

The long and winding road.

Erawan Falls level 1, unfortunately the dry season makes the water level is quite low.

Erawan Falls level 2, the most spotted one, especially for its sacred fish population. Indonesians call it ‘ikan dewa’ (Cyprinus carpico).

Animistic practices can easily be found here deep in the forest where they put offering to the spirits. So colorful and intriguing that make me forget to photograph Erawan Falls level 3 (or maybe it’s just not as beautiful as the previous one).

Erawan Falls level 5. You can imagine how beautiful it is when the rainy season filling up the stream with splashing water.

The track is getting steep and muddy, but it doesn’t stop us from going on. Practically there’s no water stream in Erawan Falls level 6 so we just pass by. Continuous rumbling sound of water shows us that the top falls is near.

Finally, the top of Erawan Falls (level 7)! Yes, the waterfall and the surrounding area is such a picture perfect. But God, give us more water please!

This is the last picture I take before I slip and fall to the ground and accidentally break my camera lens.

Slippery track, beads of sweat dropping off my face, and a broken lens, what more could I ask? I’m sorry I don’t even get a chance to capture the resemble of the three-headed white elephant.

Back to level 2 and having some refreshment in the pond. We can’t help laughing because of the tickling sensation as the fish gives us some ‘foot therapy’ inside the water.
